Côté, Pierre

Professor Côté is an epidemiologist who was originally trained as a chiropractor. He holds the prestigious Canada Research Chair in Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation and he is a Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the Ontario Tech University. He is also the director of the Centre for the Study of Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation and a Professor of Epidemiology at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto.

Professor Côté’s current research focuses on the etiology, prognosis and management of disability related to spinal pain and mental health. Dr. Côté was a member of the scientific secretariat of the 2000–2010 Bone and Joint Task Force on Neck Pain and its Associated Disorders. More recently, he was mandated by the Government of Ontario to develop evidence-based Clinical Practice Guidelines for the management of traffic injuries. He submitted his report on the management of Common Traffic injuries to the Ontario Government in 2015.

Côté is the co-Chair of the EUROSPINE Diploma in Interdisciplinary Spine Care, a programme to standardise spine care in Europe. He also serves on the EUROSPINE Task Force Reserach. In 2018, he was elected on the Board of Directors of the Global Rehabilitation Alliance and he contributes to various projects relevant to the World Health Organization, including the development of programs of rehabilitation for low back pain.

Professor Côté has received several awards including the 2019 World Federation of Chiropractic David Chapman-Smith Achievement Award for Research, the 2017 University of Ontario Institute of Technology Senior Research Excellence Award, and the 2014 Public Services Award from the Canadian Chiropractic. He has published more than 240 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals. His Scopus h-index is 54 and his Google Scholar h-index is 63. Since 2012, he has trained more than 30 post-doctoral fellows, doctoral students, master’s students and residents.
