Prof. Munting is an orthopaedic surgeon. He interrupted his residency in orthopaedic surgery for 5 years to conduct research leading to the development of new biomaterials (HA coatings and phospho-calcic cements as well as an original total hip replacement specifically designed for young and very young patients (14 to 50 years old), successfully used in over 350 patients. After completing his residency, Prof. Munting did a clinical fellowship in spinal surgery with Prof J Kostuik in Toronto before starting his career as staff surgeon at the Academic Hospital St Luc (Brussels). In 2001, he left St. Luc to take over and reorganise a busy orthopaedic department at the Clinique Saint Pierre in Ottignies (B) where he specialises almost exclusively in degenerative and deformity surgery of the spine. His interests are in outcome assessment in degenerative and spinal deformity.
He is a Founding and Board member of the Belgian Spine Society (SSBe) and incoming President of the Societé Royale Belge de Chirurgie Orthopédique et Traumatologie (SORBCOT)
